Co-authors Arisa White and Laura Atkins (for Biddy Mason Speaks Up), and Stan Yogi and Laura Atkins (for Fred Korematsu Speaks Up) provide image-driven presentations and creative writing workshops that introduce students, 8-14 years of age, to larger discussions around fighting discrimination, activism, and speaking up for justice.

How School Visits WorkRates: 1-hour presentation for up to 100 participants: $450
1-hour presentation for 100+ participants: $600 Half-day visit (3 hours/2 sessions): $1000 Full-day visit (6 hours/4 sessions): $1850 Schedule/timing: Schedule and timing needs to be worked out with presenter(s) in advance of confirming school visit. Budget: The school is responsible for honorarium due to one or both presenters on the day of the visit. If there is travel involved, host is responsible for travel costs, lodging, and meals. Stan is based on Los Angeles, Arisa in Maine, and Laura and Regina Evans in the San Francisco Bay Area. Please be sure to send travel information well in advance. Set up: School/host needs to provide a projector with speakers (we often show a short video with audio), and at least one microphone for large groups or spaces. Please test all equipment prior to the visit. Book sales and signing: We are happy to sign books at visits. Most local bookstores are happy to handle book sales or you can order direct from the publisher (email [email protected] to find out about school discounts). Publicizing the event: Ask faculty, teachers, PTA members, and students to find creative ways to promote the event. Consider contacting your local media to announce the event and invite them to attend. |
